The Marine Group of Companies
The Marine Group of Companies is a locally-rooted, family of businesses headquartered in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, that delivers integrated solutions across heavy civil construction, materials supply, real-estate development, steel fabrication, and more. As the flagship company of the group, Marine Contractors Inc. began in 1989 and has grown into a multi-divisional enterprise that empowers local communities, supports regional economic development, and takes a full-cycle approach to projects.
Our vertical integration is what sets us apart; ensuring the group not only builds the infrastructure that supports communities but also contributes to the spaces where people live and work. This synergy reduces external dependency, enhances efficiency, and strengthens our capacity to deliver complex, multi-disciplinary projects across the province. Over the years, the Marine Group of Companies has experienced steady, strategic growth, becoming one of the region’s leading employers and contributors to economic development. Our success is driven by our people: local experts, tradespeople, and professionals who take pride in their work and their communities. We are deeply committed to supporting local employment, sourcing materials and services from regional partners, and creating meaningful opportunities.
At Marine Group, our mission is simple yet powerful: Building Your Community, One Project at a Time. Every project we undertake is guided by a commitment to quality craftsmanship, environmental responsibility, and long-term sustainability. From infrastructure and civil works to real estate and fabrication, we strive to strengthen the social and economic fabric of Newfoundland and Labrador — building not just for today, but for generations to come.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
MCI works with local communities and organizations to facilitate economic development, bidding opportunities, and meaningful employment for the local population.
MCI proudly maintains an Indigenous workforce that comprises approximately 40% of total employees; many of these employees are status members of Qalipu First Nation, reinforcing MCI’s commitment to creating equitable access to opportunities in construction, supervision, and project delivery roles.
MCI prioritizes inclusive hiring practices, utilizing performance matrices where relevant to assist our team in ensuring an equitable workforce. The company actively seeks Indigenous-owned and women-owned subcontractor partners where possible and ensures equitable recruitment processes to support workforce diversity from entry-level through senior leadership positions. It is critically important to MCI’s hiring practices that local people are apart of our hiring regime, ensuring the communities we operate in are receiving the economic employment opportunities of the related scope of work.
MCI’s DEI commitment is embedded in its in-house training and internal mentorship. The company fosters an inclusive project culture where diverse perspectives inform decision-making and enhance communication strategies. MCI sponsors local training initiatives and apprenticeships to nurture future leaders from under‑represented communities.
Diversity and inclusion are championed at the executive level, with strategic oversight from co‑founders Daryl Bennett and Glynn Pike, who emphasize the importance of inclusive corporate culture.
MCI supports regional workforce development that extends far beyond project sites. Through combined initiatives, our organization drives positive social outcomes while reinforcing project success through local engagement and trust.
MCI embraces transparent decision-making, shared project governance, and respect for stakeholder diversity. Their DEI model supports collaborative, equitable partnerships between Brook Construction, the IPD strategic team of sub-contractors working with Brook Construction, Atlas Salt Co., and community stakeholders, creating an environment where all team members—regardless of background—can meaningfully contribute to project results.
Where local voices, diverse talent, and shared success come together.
Communication Strategy
Marine Contractors Inc. (MCI) understands that successful project management is rooted in a robust and effective communication strategy. We recognize that communication is a collaborative, two-way process, and that continuous feedback from all personnel is essential to ensure its effectiveness. MCI is committed to adhering to the highest communication and reporting standards throughout the duration of every project.
As part of this plan, MCI plays a key role in addressing diversity, cultural differences, and any project concerns by fostering inclusive and clear communication. This helps to ensure that all perspectives are understood and integrated, contributing to holistic and successful project management.
By upholding communication practices, MCI ensures that all project stakeholders are informed, engaged, and aligned toward achieving the project’s goals efficiently and successfully.
Committed to transparency, precision, and the highest standards in every build.
Quality Control and Assurance Methods
Marine Group of Companies and its subsidiaries take great pride in its robust internal quality assurance (QA) methodologies, which are embedded across all aspects of our operations. From annual inspections of equipment and trucks to comprehensive safety audits, financial audits, and compliance checks, MCI ensures every process meets or exceeds industry standards. We also prioritize materials assessment, workmanship reviews, and stringent adherence to design specifications.
Our aggregate production is carried out in strict alignment with QA and QC procedures, working collaboratively with project owners and consultants to achieve optimal results. This includes regular sampling and testing to confirm that all materials meet required standards. In addition, MCI takes a proactive approach to quality control by completing its own project deficiency lists and assigning a dedicated team member to conduct thorough product analysis and address any deficiencies identified.
To further ensure consistency and excellence, while MCI is not actively certified with ISO, MCI aligns its internal processes with the ISO 9001 framework, as demonstrated during the EMERA project. This framework supports continuous improvement and adherence to the highest quality standards. MCI has appointed Michelle Brophy as Quality Manager, who oversees all quality-related matters, ensuring that quality documentation and procedures are meticulously maintained.
MCI is committed to continuous improvement and regular reviews, updates, and develops a comprehensive set of master work instructions. These instructions are crucial in enabling us to maintain an organized and efficient work environment across project sites, job sites, and office operations, all while remaining in full compliance with established standards.
